Second Saturday, 3/14/09 - part 1 - Sacramento Portrait Project
Welcome to the Sacramento Portrait Project. For the first installment of this project I ventured out on the streets of Sacramento during the Second Saturday art walk. In the following posts you will find 36 images from the first installment of this project. I spent several hours on Saturday night on J street near the corner of 21st and photographed portraits of people who were interested in participating. Each of the participants will receive a free photograph from their portrait session.
These photos were taken on March 14, 2009 on J Street between 21st and 22nd in Sacramento. There are 36 images in the three posts that follow.

Hey John,
Very interesting photographs. I like way most of them are formulated in pairs

Hi William,
Thank you for the comments. I do see what you mean about the images in pairs. My original motivation for putting the images in pairs was to take advantage of the horizontal space that computer screens have. I do like how the pair offer more insight into the people that are being photographed.
I wasn’t familiar with the work of August Sander, but spent a while looking at his work on a website that I found. He really did some amazing work documenting the people of Germany.
Have you ever published you Providence street portraits? I’d certainly be interested in seeing them.
Thanks again for your comments.
Regards,
John
